Steam Shovel from yesteryear.

Steam shovel from yesteryear. – Pushing the boundaries of monochrome.

Thought I would push the boundaries for a Gotham City feel to this steam shovel at Lake Goldsmith Steam Rally. C&C would be appreciated.

Great photo of a” face” shovel of the type that dug the Mulwala canal and the Manchester ship canal. The latter was also helped by 12.000 Irish navvies.
Interesting to see that it is on rails. Current ones have huge walking feet.
Question Is the cricketing agar related to our Peter and where is Peter?

Really good to see some great engineering photos as well as sunsets and buildings

I think this same model, or similar model of Bucyrus steam shovel was used in the excavation of the Panama Canal. For those readers interested in engineering heritage, please go to:

By the way Graham, great photo!

The use of monochrome is often lost on me – I just don’t get it. But here it hit’s the spot. It’s a great composition.
