Christine has four sisters who all live in South Australia (SA) and each year around March they have a reunion that coincides with a couple of their birthdays. This year it was organised to happen in the historic town of Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills over the weekend of the 23rd and 24th March.
We took the opportunity to do some camping either side of the reunion.
The intention was to stay at a favourite spot on the Coorong near Salt Creek called Martin’s Washpool Conservation Reserve and then head to Hahdorf, stay in a motel with the sisters and their partners and then head to our block in the Mallee near Cambrai for a couple of days.
Unfortunately when we arrived at Martin’s Washpool CR it was closed for vermin control and not due to reopen until the weekend. So change of plans was in order and so reversed the process. We then headed to our bush block and set up camp mid afternoon.
We always enjoy our time on our block and not quite sure if we should leave it on the market as it is great for getting away from it all but it is a long drive.
Our bush block is a declared sanctuary and along with kangaroos, wallabies and birds it has a colony of Hairy Nose Wombats on it. These guys are very short sighted and as long as you are down wind from them they are relatively easy to sneak up on. They sense there is someone or something there but appear unable to see them.
Camping on our block is enjoyable and we know we are not going to get any visitors. As can be seen from the map, it is in quite a remote part of SA despite only being 40 min from the Barossa Valley. It is preferable to have a 4WD drive to gain access.

So we were on our block from Wednesday to Saturday morning then headed for Hahndorf. Had a great night at the local pub for dinner with the sisters and partners then early afternoon the on the Sunday we headed to the Coorong to set up camp at Martins Washpool CR.
This is a fabulous spot that very rarely sees other campers. We have never ever seen anyone else on the reserve despite the many suitable areas for comping. There is a lot of opportunity for exploring either by walking or driving or both.
And a bonus is; their is a fabulous area for flying my radio control planes.
See the marker of our campsite on the Google Map below. A highly recommended spot to camp if your passing through the area.

After 2 fantastic days lounging around, walking and reading we headed homeward with an overnight stay in a Vic State Forest on the Penola Casterton Road.

I was not feeling in a very photographic type mood over the trip so there is not a lot to show or comment on but thought I would throw a posting together in any case.
We expect to head off later in the year, probably around July. We we will head to fro 2 or 3 months we are not quite sure. Just follow our noses as usual I would guess.
Cheers for now.
G’day Graham, great pics (as always) and interesting travel notes. I do think we will have to check out Martins Washpool, looks like a great spot. Cheers for now.
