The Doncaster Camera Club organised a morning visit to Gulf Station near Yarra Glen in the Yarra Valley. Many thanks to John Smith – El President
Fortunately it was a wonderful clear day with some fluffy clouds, normally ideal for taking photographs, but the downside was that we were unable to arrange the visit before 10:00 am, which is not really a good time of the day for photography. Rule of thumb for photographs is, put your camera away at 9:00 am and take it out again at 4:00 pm. But heck, who on earth ever takes any notice of these edicts. Just rely on a bit of “post processing” to overcome the harshness of the light.
Gulf Station is a Pioneer Working Farm that began in the 1840’s as part of a 25,000 acre run known as the Gulf. Apparently due to the fact that on some mornings when entering the valley from Christmas Hills, the fog can lay low over the valley creating the appearance of a “Gulf”. I have witnessed this myself on a number of occasions when out hunting for photographs on cold and frosty winters mornings. One of my photos below from just such an excursion.
Many of Gulf Station’s original buildings and much of the infrastructure are preserved and are now part of the National Trust.

To peak your interest here are a few of my snaps from the mornings outing.

Bye for now, and wishing you all the best for 2014.
Cheers

I like them Graham, you have given the composition a fair bit of thought. The fourth is my favourite but if I were painting it I would lighten the gate slightly and add a few chooks. (bit hard with on location photography)
Thanks John
Lightening the gate – easy!
Adding chooks not too hard but I don’t have any stock chook photos on my HDD. LOL
I’ve just put that on my list of things to see whilst in Melbourne!! In Mt. gambier tonight with Beagley’s – probably get there Monday/Tuesday – will call to confirm….
Graham,
Show off.
The mushroom could have been out of focus.
Thought some photos of buildings might catch your eye David.
