Graham and Chris on Tour 2014 Update #11 – Winjana Gorge, Tunnel Creek and Derby

While waiting in Derby for brake parts for the Quantum we decided to make a day trip to Tunnel Creek and Winjana Gorge. Our original plan included camping at Winjana but the fact that it is only about 340km round trip from Derby, most of which is on fairly good road, we decided to make a day of it.

So here is some photos from that day trip and some additional snaps from in and around Derby.

Over the weekend of 26th/27th July we had a call from our good friends Alan and Lorraine and arranged to meet up with them on the following Monday in the caravan park.

Subsequently we had 3 days/nights together before setting off on our separate ways on Thursday the 31st July, Alan and Lorraine headed east and we headed south west.

It is great to have brakes once agin on the 2.2 tonnes of trailer.

We are now headed towards Broome and the Pilbara and are once again free agents to simply follow our nose without any commitments of time or place other that getting home be the 31 October.

Graham – I see where your camped tonight – are you considering going up to Cape Leveque? Above Willy Ck (same road) there are spots along the coast that are in my opinion good for camping – not sure if it’s allowed of course!!

      Hi Nicko
Yeah we were just talking about that very subject. The cruiser booked in for service next Thursday.
Heading up to camp spot on Cape Lavique? Road for the weekend then booked in to bird Observatory Monday night for 4 nights about 20 k’s out of Broome.

Think we might give Cape Lavique itself a miss.
We are sick to death of crowds.

We camped at Quondong Point for a week last year (no amenities/no cost) not very far up the Dampier Peninsular which we enjoyed. It is just short of James Price Point
